St Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Dunedin is the oldest purpose built Orthodox church in Australasia.
The doors of St Michael's first opened for worship in 1911 and worship here has continued, sometimes sporadically, ever since.
Our Church was built as a labour of love by Syrian immigrants to Dunedin - you can read more about its history here.
Father Ilyan
of Bessed Memory

Archpriest Fr Ilyan who served our Parish and the Orthodox of Otago for more than 22 years
Reposed in the Lord, 18th March 2010.
For now we are without a Parish Priest but we have services of the Divine Liturgy served by visiting Priests on a fornightly basis.
On the Sundays where no Priest is available we have a Typika service, so our life in the church may continue
Let us all pray that the Lord will send us a permanant Parish Priest and that one hundred years from today Worship at St Michael's continues on a regular basis as it does today
